Malick Welli is a Senegalese visual artist and photographer based between Dakar and Paris. Through a multidisciplinary practice, he explores themes of duality, spirituality, history, and the restitution of memory, offering a nuanced reflection on identity, belonging, and displacement.
His work, often marked by mysticism and deep introspection, navigates the complex intersections of religion, material culture, economic dynamics, and power structures, questioning their impact on contemporary narratives and social perceptions.
Welli’s art has been exhibited internationally in renowned institutions and cultural events, including the Wereldmuseum in Leiden, Netherlands, the Chazen Museum of Art in Wisconsin, USA, Express Newark at Rutgers University, USA, as well as significant biennales such as the Cairo Biennale and the Dakar Biennale.
He is also the co-founder of the artist residency Malidoma Popenguine in Senegal.
